Question :21

Which one of the following numbers is divisible by 11?

Answer: (d)

We know that, If the difference between the sum of digits at even places and sum of digits at odd places is (0) or multiple of 11, then the number is divisible by 11.

From options,

(a) 45678940

Sum of even places = 5 + 7 + 9 + 0 = 21

Sum of odd palaces = 4 + 6 + 8 + 4 = 22

Their difference = 22 – 21 = 1 ≠ 0

(b) 54857266

Sum of even places = 4 + 5 + 2 + 6 = 17

Sum of odd palaces = 5 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 26

Their difference = 26 – 17 = 9 ≠ 0

(c) 87524398

Sum of even places = 7 + 2 + 3 + 8 = 20

Sum of odd palaces = 8 + 5 + 4 + 9 = 26

Their difference = 26 – 20 = 6 ≠ 0

(d) 93455120

Sum of even places = 3 + 5 + 1 + 0 = 9

Sum of odd palaces = 9 + 4 + 5 + 2 = 20

Difference = 20 – 9 = 11

It is divisible by 11.

Question :22

If among 54 students each contributes Rs. 60, the amount to buy new books for the library can be collected . If 9 students drop out how much additional amount does each student have to pay ?

Answer: (b)

Sum to be collected from 54 students

= 60×54 = 3240 Rs.

Sum collected from 45 students

= 60 × 45 = 2700 Rs.

Difference = 3240 - 2700 = 540 Rs.

∴ Additional amount to be paid by each student

= $540/45$ = Rs. 12
